Island Her His-stories

Island histories

A Waiheke family commissioned this special pou with each of the koru representing one of the six generations of their family who have now lived on the island at some point. The seventh koru, closest to the ground, symbolises Papatūānuku (Mother Earth). Like the Kuaka (godwit) featured on the pou’s reverse, this family may spend time away from the island, but always return.
